Two Skill Development Sessions were recently conducted by Kevin Duff, a 4.5 player. It was great to see so many members attending and taking the opportunity to improve their games. It was well received. Thank you Kevin!
On Friday, September 14, 2018, our Club had it first Beginner Session which attracted 15 participants, 6 of them were new players that just showed up that morning. We also had 4 new players become members. Watch the Our Play Times Calendar for new Beginner Sessions coming in the near future.
Our last days of summer found us on the courts of the Max McLean Arena contending to find the best of the best. We had 32 players, 17 men and 15 women in 4 groupings. Most points would determine the best 3 players in Mens and the best 3 players in Womens. Hard fought battles in each group left the following as victors:
First – Sandra F. with 71/77 points
Second – Darlene S. with 69/77 points
Third – Marina O. with 68/77 points
First – Lorne S. with 76/77 points
Second – Lin L. with 74/77 points
Third – Dean E. with 72/77 points
We all headed upstairs to feast on delicious hamburgers prepared to perfection by celebrity cooks Sandy and Dave B. Everyone selected from the variety of scrumptious side dishes and desserts to supplement their hearty hamburger. Volunteers are the backbone of our club. We are thankful that we have such great members.
As a special treat we had door prizes (that were left over from our Spring Tournament).
Two $25 gift cards from Smitty’s Restaurant were chosen in a draw.
Women’s draw: Brenda W.
Men’s draw: Richard D.
One gift card from Battle River Sports:
Won by Rebecca H.
If laughter and smiles and ooohs and aaaaws determine the success of our tournament, then we can declare this tournament to be a huge success.
Well played everyone!

Dean, Donna, Richard, Claudine and Yvon recently attended the AGM for Pickleball Alberta. It was a very informative meeting. We were also able to spend a couple of hours playing pickleball outside after the meeting on a beautiful Fall day. A note from the President of Pickleball Alberta, Bev Walker, is below…
The second AGM for Pickleball Alberta Organization was held Sunday, September 24th in Red Deer. At this AGM there were 22 in attendance, representing 9 clubs plus Pickleball Canada.
The support to establish a provincial sports organization and national sports organization for pickleball is very encouraging. We are on our way! There is much to be done as we work in conjunction with Pickleball Canada, and other provinces to accomplish our goals.
There was good discussion at the AGM and PA has taken on specific actions to provide clubs information. It was very helpful to have Alberta based members of the PCO Board in attendance to clarify and respond to some of the questions. Thanks to Val Vollmin and Doug Thomson in particular for attending and providing us thier insights! One of the comments was how much Albertans are involved in PCO and I’d be remiss if I didn’t acknowldge the double duty taken on by Mike Cooper, Brenda Feser and Gene Vollmin who are also involved at both the provincial and national levels.
I would like to thank the outgoing PA Board members for their work and support in our first year of operation – George Frohlich as Secretary, Trevor Burndred as Treasurer and Brian Popowitch as Communications Director. A separate email will be sent to appeal for volunteers to help with PA Board work and other initiatives to be undertaking this coming year.
Our fledgling website will be adding more information and capacity so keep checking us out at www.pickleballalberta.org
On August 30th we had over 30 players participate in our Goodbye Max McLean tournament. What a great turn-out! It was a FUN tournament – not focussed on winning – but on everyone having lots of play time with people of a similar skill level. Check out our Facebook page (Camrose Pickleball) to see a few short video’s of entertaining play.
Following the tournament we sat down to a great meal. Thanks everyone for participating in the wonderful Pot Luck! Once again the executive worked hard to make this event another success. They deserve a big round of applause.
Starting September we are back at the Field House. (Check out our Calendar on the web site for the updated schedule).
Thursdays 9 – 11 at the Arena
Free for Club Members. $2.00 for non members
With Big Valley Jamboree heating up in our city, we did well to have 8 come out to play Ladies Pickleball this morning. (August 3rd) We all played 7 games and had the pleasure of having each person as a partner. This is a trial event for the month of August. Attendance will be monitored to ensure it’s a worthwhile event to continue into September, so join us if you can.
